Candidate Profile, Tauranga City Council For Mayor and Councillor at Large

I was honoured to become your Deputy Mayor when I was voted onto Council in 2013. I have thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic experience of local government, working hard to fulfil my promise to address Council debt (currently down by 20%*) and reduce rates rises (almost halved**). I am proud of the wise investments this Council has made to further our collective wellbeing.

Now I want to step up and be your Mayor. The champion for your city.

Tauranga needs a progressive and visionary leader. I feel well-equipped to continue successfully managing our unprecedented growth, and secure a prosperous future for everyone.

As your Mayor my focus will be investment and innovation. I will set clear direction for the city and the Council, as a constructive, consensus-building leader. I will be a Mayor who helps your councillors get things done in very positive and proactive ways.

Our keys to success as a city will be innovation, collaboration and celebration.

If you share my vision that Tauranga is New Zealand’s most sustainable and desirable city for raising a family, building a business or career, and enjoying life, vote Kelvin for Mayor, Clout for Council.

* June 2016 net debt compared to June 2013 net debt. Note that net debt is expected to rise again due to significant infrastructure investment over coming years

** Average annual rate rises 2013/14 – 2016/17 compared to 2005/06 – 2013/14
